Still and Graceful
Statement
This series draws from the sensibility of classical Chinese poetry, while also engaging with the visual language of traditional gongbi painting.
Rather than illustrating specific texts, the work focuses on translating a shared aesthetic logic—where meaning is suggested through restraint, and emotion unfolds within stillness. Compositions are deliberately simplified, gestures are controlled, and the palette remains subdued.
The influence of gongbi painting is reflected in the attention to detail, the clarity of form, and the emphasis on surface. Space is treated with a certain flatness, and color is used with precision, allowing small accents to carry visual weight within an otherwise restrained image.
Through this approach, the figure exists between presence and representation—less as a narrative subject, and more as a constructed image. The series does not seek to tell a story, but to hold a moment in suspension, where form, light, and silence converge.
